Stock Market Today: SIVB & SBNY Weakness, ILMN, GOLD, NEM Strength

The Dow Jones ended the day down, along with the S&P 500, and the Russel 2000. The Nasdaq-100 was the only index to end in the green. Seven out of the eleven S&P 500 sectors closed in the green. Financial stocks dropped as SVB Financial (SIVB) and Signature Bank (SBNY) collapsed and the FDIC took control of the institutions. Shares of the biotech company Illumina (ILMN) closed nearly 17% higher after the wall street journal reported that billionaire activist Carl Ichan is preparing a proxy fight at the company. Gold mining stocks, including Barrick Gold (GOLD) and Newmont (NEM) rose more than 7% on the increase in the price of gold futures, due to the fallout happening with regional banks. Tomorrow, look for the February consumer price index report. Tune in to find out more about the stock market today.
