U.S. stock futures are slightly higher in premarket trading and attempting to rebound from yesterday’s sell-off led by tech.

Stocks fell during Tuesday’s session as investors rotated out of riskier growth names and toward cyclical stocks and staples. Software stocks once again led the losses following an announcement from Anthropic that it was launching a new artificial intelligence tool servicing legal work, threatening software firms.

On the earnings front, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is down 9% post quarterly report and Chipotle (CMG) is under pressure again after missing estimates. Along with more earnings, including Alphabet (GOOGL) after the close, investors will be watching labor data as ADP will release its monthly look at private payroll growth for January.

Snapshot (as of 7 AM ET)

  • Oil (/CL) – Oil prices are up 0.4% near $63.40 barrel, after the U.S. shot down an Iranian drone approaching a U.S. aircraft carrier and armed boats approached a U.S.-flagged vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, stoking concerns that talks aimed at de-escalating U.S.-Iran tensions could be disrupted.
  • Gold (/GC) – Gold and silver futures extended Tuesday’s gains, with analysts saying further gains will likely be determined by the direction of foreign exchange and interest rate expectations. Gold is up over 2.5% near $5070 and Silver futures (/SI) are up more than 7.5% near $90 in premarket trading.
  • Bitcoin (/BTC) – The Crypto Future is down 0.5% near 76,300 in premarket trading. Bitcoin fell sharply yesterday and hit its lowest level since November of 2024 near 73K
  • VIX – The CBOE Volatility Index was up 10% on Tuesday and settled at 18 as stocks fell.
  • U.S. Dollar (/DX) – The dollar is flat at 97.3.
