Closing Bell: Stocks Rise as Treasury Yields Retreat, Accenture Rallies, Nike Revenue Disappoints

U.S. stocks finished modestly higher Thursday, underpinned by a retreat in Treasury yields and strength in select technology and services stocks. 

The S&P 500 (SPX) rose 0.19%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DJI) added 0.04%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 (NDX) advanced 0.53%, while the Russell 2000 (RUT) rose 0.35%. 

Treasury yields had climbed to multi-decade highs earlier in the session before pulling back and easing pressure on rate-sensitive growth stocks. The U.S. benchmark crude oil price rose 2.72% to near $93 per barrel.

Nike Earnings Pressure Shares After Hours 

Nike (NKE) reported fiscal first quarter results after the close. According to the company’s press release: Net income was $0.7B, down 2%, with diluted earnings per share of 48 cents. Revenue missed estimates at $11.2B, down 4%. Gross margin increased 60 basis points, to 42.8%, with a 3% drop in selling and administrative costs. Shares fell 0.71% in regular trading and slumped roughly 4% shortly after the earnings print. News reports noted that short interest in Nike stock had grown to roughly 7% of available shares. Accenture leads the S&P 500 After Earnings 

Accenture (ACN) surged about 16%, making it the day’s standout large-cap mover, after reporting adjusted earnings of $3.29 per share on $18.68 billion in revenue. The tech consulting company provided fiscal first-quarter revenue guidance, indicating an increase to between $18.9B and $19.6B. Competitor KPMG recently released its Q3 2026 A.I Pulse Survey. Micron’s earnings reinforce AI-memory Demand 

Micron Technology (MU) climbed 3.03% to $1,097.39 after its fiscal fourth-quarter results topped expectations and reinforced strong demand for memory used in artificial-intelligence infrastructure. The company reported quarterly sales growth of approximately 379% year over year and indicated demand is strong in forward months. Alphabet Launches Gemini 4 Argon, Shares Fall 

Alphabet (GOOGL) declined 1.68% to $338.30 after it introduced Gemini 4 Argon, a frontier model intended to improve the speed and efficiency of its Gemini software without raising costs.
