U.S. stocks advanced to start the week as crude oil pulled back after Iranian officials signaled openness to a regional peace framework. The tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 (NDX) rose 1.09%, led by a 2.82% surge in the PHLX Semiconductor Sector Index (SOX).

The S&P 500 (SPX) gained 0.70%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DJI) added 0.28%, and the Russell 2000 (RUT) climbed 0.38%.

The 10-year Treasury yield eased slightly to 4.986%. Volatility remained elevated, even as the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) fell 5.45% to 18.41. WTI crude (/CL) dropped nearly 1.8% to $101.40 as Iranian leaders met with Gulf partners to work toward a peace agreement.

Anthropic IPO Filing Highlights Growth, Losses and AI Risks

Anthropic filed for a U.S. IPO under the ticker “ANT,” reporting explosive growth alongside steep losses. First-half 2026 revenue reached $16.3 billion, while its $80.7 billion net loss was largely driven by convertible-bond valuation changes. The filing also highlights rising infrastructure costs, customer concentration, and significant AI model risks.

Neocloud Volatility Continues as Debt Concerns Grow

Nebius (NBIS), CoreWeave (CRWV), and IREN (IREN) each had a volatile session of trading following Elon Musk’s Sunday post on X. Musk said debt markets have “almost entirely shut off access to money” for companies without substantial revenue outside AI data centers and predicted that more than 200 neoclouds face “guppy-level death and consolidation,” adding that “some will make it through, but not many.” The declines compounded pressure the group was already facing amid concerns over debt-funded expansion and whether the AI buildout will generate adequate returns. Nebius ended the day down over 3%, while Iren and CoreWeave ended the day positive on the session.

Verizon Subscriber Strength Drives Q3 Beat, Guidance Hike

Verizon (VZ) beat Q3 adjusted EPS estimates, reporting $1.31 per share, while revenue rose 1.5% to $34.3 billion but missed expectations. Postpaid phone additions reached 406,000, well above consensus and the strongest third quarter in five years. Verizon also raised its 2026 guidance for the third consecutive quarter, increasing its outlook for postpaid phone additions, adjusted EPS, and free cash flow growth. Management credited stronger subscriber trends, reduced promotional spending, and the June launch of its Simplicity plan.
