Nvidia (NVDA) Earnings to Set Tone for Markets Amid Muted Expectations

Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) results may be less about whether it beats earnings estimates after the closing bell today and more about whether the company can convince investors that the AI spending boom is intact and still has years of sales ahead.
One thing is clear: Nvidia makes up about 7% of the S&P 500 (SPX) and nearly 13% of the Nasdaq-100 (NDX), and its earnings and spending plans announced after today’s closing bell will influence market direction post results.
Nvidia heads into its fiscal Q2 earnings report with sky-high expectations on revenue and earnings per share. Wall Street forecasts quarterly revenue of roughly $92 billion (up 97% year-over-year) and adjusted EPS of approximately $2.09, up 99% year-over-year. Investor focus will be on Margins, Data Center dominance, roadmaps for Blackwell and Vera Rubin architecture, partnerships and financing outlook.
he Key Driver Remains Nvidia's Data Center Business
Nvidia’s dominant revenue engine has become its data center business. The segment generated more than $75 billion in the prior quarter, fueled by massive AI infrastructure spending from hyperscalers including Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Meta Platforms (META). Investors will be watching closely to see if Data Center revenue can exceed the $80 billion mark and whether demand remains strong enough to support another round of upside guidance.
Margins will be another major focus. Nvidia has guided for non-GAAP gross margins around 75%, an extraordinary level for a semiconductor company. Investors want reassurance that higher memory costs and the transition to newer AI systems are not creating meaningful profit pressure. Maintaining margins near current levels would reinforce Nvidia's pricing power and leadership position in AI computing.
Chip Demand and Rollout of Blackwell, Vera Rubin
On the product front, the market will be looking for updates on the rollout of its Blackwell chip, which is currently driving AI server demand, as well as commentary around the next-generation Vera Rubin architecture scheduled to ramp later in 2026. CEO Jensen Huang has previously highlighted massive visibility into future demand from Blackwell and Rubin platforms, making product execution a critical factor for the stock.
Markets are actively evaluating new data-center financing structures and customer backstops to gauge whether end-demand is intact or showing signs of circular financing constraints. Nvidia has committed to a landmark $500 billion AI infrastructure financing initiative alongside six major Wall Street financial giants, including Goldman Sachs (GS), Blackrock (BLK) and Blackstone (BX). Nvidia also has multi-year technology frameworks with memory giant SK Hynix (SKHY) and alliances with Nebius (NBIS), Alphabet (GOOGL), Iren Ltd. (IREN), Synopsis (SNPS), Marvell (MRVL), and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM).
Will Nvidia Repurchase Shares? What Options Market is Saying
Beyond earnings, investors will also be listening for any discussion of shareholder returns. Nvidia generated enormous free cash flow over the past year, and going on last quarter’s $80 billion buyback announcement, many believe additional share repurchases could be announced or expanded.
The stock action of Nvidia has been underwhelming to say the least since their last earnings in May. Shares are down 4.7% from their last quarterly report despite an earnings beat, growth rate of 85% and raised guidance. The stock is still up 14.2% this year as of Tuesday’s closing price near $213 but is down nearly 10% from its all-time high of $236.54 on May 14. A couple of key support areas may be its 50-day simple moving average of $207.81 and its 200-day of $195.43. The stock snapped a seven-session losing streak on Tuesday, so the bar is relatively low going into the report.
Implied volatility levels are muted going into the report on a historical basis. The current IV Percentile level of 47% may indicate the market is anticipating a somewhat non-event move for the shares post results. The option market is pricing a potential +/- 5.5% one-day move or $11.60 in either direction on a one-standard deviation.
Ultimately, strong Data Center growth, stable margins, accelerating Blackwell adoption, and confident guidance could reinforce Nvidia's position as the bellwether for the entire AI trade. On the flipside, any hint of slowing demand or margin pressure could negatively impact the stock, the technology sector, and the broader market.
