Week Ahead: Heavy Economic Data as U.S.-China Summit Looms

Economic data will be the theme of this trading week, with reports including the S&P Global PMI Index, Chicago Fed National Activity index, Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index, New Home Sales, and Durable Goods.

Costco (COST) is the headliner name reporting results during a relatively light earnings week, with other notable companies reporting including AutoZone (AZO), KB Home (KBH), Darden Restaurants (DRI), and Blackberry (BB).

Additionally, President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet this week, with expectations that the two leaders will discuss trade, the U.S.-Iran War and its effects on energy markets, and artificial intelligence. It’s also rebalancing time for major indexes, with Bloom Energy (BE), Illumina (ILMN), and Everpure (P) joining the S&P 500. They replace Molson Coors (TAP), The Trade Desk (TTD), and Builders FirstSource (BLDR) as of Monday’s open. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 also will shift as the index weight of SpaceX (SPCX) increases to 2.25% from 1.25%, which could trigger additional passive inflows from institutional investing.
