Week Ahead: Watch Employment Data, GDP, and Micron Technology (MU) Earnings

Economic data is at the forefront of the final trading week of September, with several key readings on U.S. employment figures.

The headline data is the Jobs Report on Friday, Oct. 2, but other jobs-related info includes JOLTS, the ADP Employment Report, Challenger Job Cuts, and Jobless Claims. Other notable reports: a read on GDP, Personal Income and Outlays, and the ISM Manufacturing Report.

Micron Technology (MU) is the standout earnings name next week after the resurgence of the memory chip sector last week helped drive the Nasdaq-100 (NDX) to new all-time highs. Other notable companies reporting results include Nike (NKE), Carnival (CCL), Jabil (JBL), and Accenture (ACN).

Traders also should be aware of the possibility of increased trading volumes and volatility as September draws to a close. The conclusion of this month represents a notable monthly and quarterly boundary, which could result in shuffling of institutional portfolios and rebalancing.
