Friedrich: Small to Mid Size Businesses are Confident, Jobs Market Better than it Seems

Amy Friedrich takes a contrarian point on the August jobs data, saying she thinks there is “more resilience” than what the report shows. “Small to mid size businesses are saying they want to let workers go as a last resort,” she says, and argues that they’re even hiring more workers. She thinks businesses are confident in themselves but uncertain about the broader economy, so if trade issues can be resolved, she thinks we’ll see a growth spurt.
