The ‘Lock In’ Effects Hampering the Housing Market

There are several “lock-in” effects reducing mobility and hampering supply, Odeta explains, such as the weakening job market. However, she sees some areas of the country where it’s becoming a “buyer’s market.” It’s big life events, not “financial incentive,” that are making people move, she argues. On the other hand, new builds are the “bright spot” in the sector despite rising homebuilder costs.
