Whalen: ‘Tariffs are a Distraction; Credit is the Headline’ of 2025

Chris Whalen says JPMorgan Chase (JPM) has a “mind-boggling” advantage in its efficiencies, but notes recurring revenue was basically flat. However, he notes that as GDP estimates tick down, delinquencies will likely rise, which the banks need to prepare for. “Tariffs are a distraction,” he adds, “credit is the headline this year.” He looks at struggling real estate markets to back his point.
