Closing Bell: S&P 500, Nasdaq-100 Hit Records as Yields, Oil Ease

The S&P 500 (SPX) and Nasdaq-100 (NDX) set fresh highs Tuesday as Treasury yields retreated from multi-year peaks and oil prices steadied.
The S&P 500 was up 0.58%, with component Constellation Energy (CEG) spiking on a transaction that lifted the utilities sector, the best performing SPX sector. The health care sector lagged. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DJI) moved higher by 0.49%. The Russell 2000 (RUT) fell 0.59%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 rose 0.48%.
The PHLX Semiconductor Sector Index (SOX) rose 0.34%. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) shares reached a record on continued chip-demand optimism. Memory-storage stocks Seagate Technology (STX) and Western Digital (WDC) tumbled on reports that Toshiba plans to double hard-disk-drive output.
Treasury yields were lower Tuesday after they rallied to their highest levels since 2002 on Monday. The benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield fell more than 4 basis points to 5.27%, while the 30-year bond yield declined more than 2 basis points to 5.64%. Nuclear Power in the Spotlight
Constellation Energy jumped 12% Tuesday on news it arranged a 20-year deal to supply Alphabet (GOOGL) with 890 megawatts of nuclear capacity. Alphabet shares were up 0.35%, while power producers Talen Energy (TLN) and Vistra (VST) rose more than 12% and nearly 11% respectively. The agreement underscores the energy supply hyperscalers need to meet AI datacenter demand. FOMC Minutes Take Center Stage
