What to Watch on Wall Street
We begin the U.S. trading week with stock indices at or near all-time highs; last week the Dow rose above 40,000 for the first time ever. The focus for market participants today will be on the week ahead, so let's take a market minute to get ahead of what you should be watching out for.
We have a handful of tech names this week set to report quarterly results: at the top of the list, Nvidia (NVDA) on Wednesday. But we also have Palo Alto (PANW) on the close today with Zoom (ZM), and Intuit (INTU) later in the week on Thursday. Retailers will provide further insight as to how the consumer is faring this week; we will hear from Macy’s (M), Lowe’s (LOW), Target (TGT), TJX (TJX), and Ross (ROST).
In terms of economic data, a slow start to a busy week with Fed speakers galore—today, Bostic, Barr, and Waller to name a few. Tomorrow, Barkin and Williams, and Wednesday we’ll get a look at the Fed minutes from the last meeting. Existing Home Sales and the Atlanta Fed Business Inflation Expectations, with the 20-year Bond Auction will be watched, Thursday we have weekly Jobless claims, PMI Composite Flash and New Home Sales, and Friday Durable Goods Orders and Consumer Sentiment release.
Lastly, it's not just stocks at all-time highs: we've got copper and gold at historic levels to begin the week as well. Copper is trading above $5 and gold futures above $2430.
